Little Yellow Rucksack

yellow rucksack

Hey, how cute is this little yellow rucksack!  My favourite uncle gave me one just like this for my 5th birthday.  Over the years my little rucksack brought me so much joy and travelled with me on bike trips, camping holidays and, on one occasion right up the Eiffel Tower.  My bag was bright and trustworthy and I knew I could rely on it to keep my most precious things safe.  On a good day it might be carrying all my essentials:  BLT sandwiches, walkman, dewberry lipbalm, pocket money, Kodak fun flash camera.
But alas, one day the fun came to abrupt end when the straps had finally become so tight on my growing lanky arms, that neither contortionist moves nor a small team of helpers could get it onto my shoulders.  I had reached a point where there was grave danger of me breaking the little rucksack or the little rucksack breaking me.
Despite the fact I couldn’t wear it anymore, for years to come it still hung on the hook of my bedroom door as a reminder of more carefree times.  When I turned 21 and officially an adult, I bravely said my goodbyes as I handed my little yellow friend into the local thrift shop.  My only hope was that it would go to a good home and some small person would love it and cherish it just as I had.
As for my current rucksacking needs, the yearning ends here because I have found a grown-up version at last!   This one in the picture is yellow but you can get them in lots of other colours from Pageant in Edinburgh for just £35 a pop.  Yay!
