Best Dressed Bands #2
Want more from a band than teenage boys in black skinny jeans , pointy shoes and little t-shirts? Me too. But finding fashion inspiration from musicians can be hard work. For this week’s Best Dressed Band slot I
‘ve asked around town and consulted online forums, and the same names crop up time and time again: The Bravery, The Libertines, The Horrors, The Strokes - all oft mentioned in the style stakes but none of them get me excited. I need a band who can surprise and inspire me, who know how to dress up, who understand the meaning of performance, yet still leave space for their creativity and personality to shine through. I know - I need JAMES PANTS!
I saw James Pants and his band at Limbo in Edinburgh last year. Dressed up in oriental smoking jackets and bobble hats with genie slippers, they wowed the crowd with their eccentric American funk noise. Pants warmed up the audience with stretches and shakes, turning the venue temporarily into a beer-soaked gymhall. Only once he was fully satisfied that his fans were ready, did he then break into his deep, bassy take on psychedelic-funk.
A Google image search for James Pants has revealed that they don’t normally dress like this at all, and it seems they bought out the dressing up box especially for this one performance. Photos of this occurrence are hard to come by and all of the images included in this post were uploaded onto Flikr by dontpa.nic. She has loads of other gorgeous pictures so take a look.
